Get A FREE Education With Grants

In today’s difficult economic times, finding employment isn’t easy.   In order to get ahead of the competition, you must possess more than just experience and skill.  To pursue the career of your dreams, a well rounded education is key.  Many eager individuals dismiss the thought of returning to school for a college degree due to the hefty price tag that comes with it.  It’s important for all to know that the government provides many opportunities for low-income individuals to pursue their dreams and earn an education.

What Are They?

Education grants are free money provided to help individuals pay for college. Finding a government grant for school can alleviate a lot of the expenses that come with pursuing a higher education.   Funds may be used for tuition, books, computers and other items that will help you successfully complete your degree.  The best part about a grant is that you will not have to pay the money back.  Grants have afforded many individuals the gift of earning a college degree and achieving their career dreams.

How Do I Get One?

Qualifying for these grants is typically based on a student’s financial need. To apply you will need to fill out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The information listed on this form is then sent to the college or career school you’re applying to and they will determine your eligibility for financial aid.

Various Grant Types

The most common type of grant is the Pell Grant.  This grant is generally awarded to an undergraduate student who has not obtained their bachelors degree or professional degree. The amount of assistance you can receive depends on your need, the cost of tuition along with several other factors.  The maximum award for the 2018-19 school year is $6,095. The funds are typically sent directly to your school to apply towards your bill and any excess funds are usually given to the student after a set date.

Another popular grant is the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). Unfortunately, not all schools offer this type of aid.  This type of grans is also for undergraduate students with an exceptional need for the funds.  The amount of assistance you receive depends on when you apply, the amount of other financial aid you receive and the availability of aid at your school.  Currently, this grant provides anywhere between $100-$4,000 a year in free financial assistance.

The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) program differs from the above mentioned grants as it is geared towards students taking specific types of classes.  If you are interested in becoming a teacher, this grant is a great option for you.  This grant does come with certain obligations that are important to understand before accepting. This grant awards up to $ 4,000 per year to a student who plans on teaching under specific terms and conditions.
